The African Self Preservation Council The situation on the African continent was no better. Warlords, government
armies, corporate police, and civilian mobs clashed in widespread civil
and national war. The Benue River ran red for three days after the Nigerian
and Cameroon armies clashed at its source. Government forces from Kenya,
Tanzania, Uganda, and Zaire united at a conference on the shores of Lake
Victoria. The western half of Zaire and all of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania
came under the control of the African Self Preservation Council. This
alliance of forces and the Egyptians remain the only bastions of order
on the continent even today. They are more concerned with maintaining
their internal stability than becoming larger players in the global community,
as the rest of Africa is still embroiled in bitter tribal and regional
conflicts.
