World History With the partial melting of the the polar ice caps causing disastrous floods in a fair percentage of Earth's land surface. The Federal Government of the United States seized power, insulating themselves on the remains of the continental US. To stop flooding in their own country, the Federal Government sacrificed California, Florida, Michigan, and pieces of most of the coastline, constructing terrain too high for the water to overtake. Within a few years, the Federals became oppressive and tyrannical. Civil rights were suspended, and the government began experiments with the assistance of the Sivar, an alien race, that made the World War II Nazi eugenics program comparable to a high school biology project. The world became a dark place filled with fear and crime, skies were blackened, people did their best never to leave their homes. George Orwell was only 37 years off. The police became angry militant forces; innocent citizens were ground into meal for the replicators. City streets became war zones, rubble and patrols, the homeless scavenging in the rubble for anything of use in the middle of town, fleeing from anything government related like rats fleeing from light. Anyone who spoke against the government simply 'vanished.' The land of the free and the home of the brave, had become the land of the oppressed and the home of the frightened. A beacon rose in the darkness, a Resistance against the Federal government began. Rising from the ashes of a trampled nation; The Resistance Armed Forces, commanded by Generals Alex (Rock) Murphy and Ian Carinae, raised a civil uprising against the government. The war lasted for nearly two years, and after major losses from both sides, the Federal Government was toppled and The Resistance seized control. This period in time came to be known as The Resistance Wars. The HQ military base was established as the flagship base for the Federated Armed Forces, and is now home to most of the surviving resistance warriors. The new HQ building was officially dedicated and opened April 10, 2023. General Ian Carinae returned to his home country, to be subsequently assigned to HQ Island as liaison between the new Federation and the Spratleys. General Alex (Rock) Murphy ran for the office of President of the Federation, was elected May 15, 2023, Sworn in May 30th. Upon his inauguration, he appointed Asha Carinae to lead the Armed Forces for the new nation. "It has been over two years since the beginning of the Resistance Wars, and over a year since the Federation became the newest force to be reckoned with. We have lost many friends, many colleagues, and even more enemies over the years. The roll call of the dead is longer than any of us, the survivors, ever wanted. Our lives were forever changed by men like General Ian Carinae, President Alex "Rock" Murphy, Marsellus Carasin, Greg Stone, Kyndle, Kragen, Ranger, and many many others that have graced us with their presence and the short time we had. But now, with threats looming over every horizon, threatening our new found freedoms and our very existence on a regular basis...we are still fighting. New faces come and go, some to stay, some to move on to other adventures, but the fight for right continues. And we intend to be there to win it." - Private A.H. While the old government had been trampled under the heel of the Resistance. The Sivar weren't done with the earth yet: they attacked en masse, nearly decimating the Australian continent. The leaders of Australia set off their own nuclear weapons, destroying both the invading forces and the continent's habitability for generations to come. Few are brave - or stupid - enough to go there now, but rumor has it the mutations of the ocean life are quite spectacular. The hazard zone is patrolled, and careful watch is kept by satellite on the remains of the continent. The Sivar had also left behind a "core", that is, a signaling device to their home world that Earth was now ready for occupation. The destruction of that core cost General Ian Carinae his life. The destruction of the Sivar Core had a bright side; the psionic "backlash" resounded throughout the known universe, calling the attention of other intelligent races to Earth's existence. The Yaujta were already known to the hierarchy of the fledgling Federation, and chose to renew their treaty with the new leadership. Then the Arella, a formerly unknown race of beings discovered US, in their search for a new home, away from the civil war that was destroying their planet. In what may be one of the most ironic moves in history, the Arella that were searching for peace re-settled, as part of an alliance agreement, on HQ Island the headquarters for the Federation's military. President Alex "Rock" Murphy was assassinated less than a
year into his term of office, Vice President Jason Brown stepping into
his shoes. The assassins have never been found, nor the motive for the
murder determined. Jason Brown has been a quiet leader, involved primarily
with rebuilding the infrastructure of the nation that was nearly destroyed
by the civil war. |
