The Arella Society

All that we know of the arella race has been gained through interviews and observations of their race, for a week two of our field reporters lived with them, gathering any information that was readily available.

Brief History

To understand The Arella that are presently on earth, and their society, one must first realize that they come from a world enveloped in a war that has lasted for centuries. Most of their planet is a battleground. This, consequently , caused The Arella to find our planet. They sent forth a craft with one of their most trusted passifist men aboard to find a new home, a world where they could live at peace. What they found was us.

From what we have gathered, The Arella race is divided into 7 sects of people, and while all are beings with magical abilities, they do have very different abilities from one another. The different sects will be listed in the Arella Clans section of the Pocket Guide, in order to help familiarize the people with this culture.

Culture

The Arella frame themselves over a believe in one singular God which is to them, for more information concerning this, please see The Arella Religion section of The Pocket Guide.

The Arella culture appears to be a combination between Celtic and Roman culture, and they speak (and write) a language we are yet to be able to translate. They dress predominantly in robes or dresses, aswell as sandals and (on occasion) rings and small jewelry. Hair is usually worn long, with decorative braids for males, and "french" braids for females.

Youth

Arella males are raised to be providers, farmers, workers, merchants, and scholars. They are trained from the beginning to use the gifts "The One" gave them*. They, like humans, are taught first to read, write, and do simple mathematical calculations. An Arella youth cycle lasts 30 years on earth.

Arella Females are raised to be matriarchs, scholars, weavers, and jewelers. From birth they receive a fair amount more training than most males, in their gifts aswell as the making of most Arella Technology**. Often Arella women remain at home to raise children, though this is not a requirement: It is perfectly acceptable in Arella society for a female to do the same task as a male. Equality is a common acceptance.

The Council and Economic System

It has been revealed that the Arella have a Socialistic society, while their people's leaders are elect through a process of agreeance by the people, all of their wealth is shared, they do not believe that wealth brings happiness by any means, it is merely something required to survive, like water or food. The council is both a judicial and a political government, as the leader and members of the council act as both ambassadors and judges. Like many governments on earth, each council member has a task. The members of the council are:

  • Radeuriel Nemamiah - Leader of the Council (Hagith)
  • Sachluph Barpharanges - Minister of Agriculture (Kerub)
  • Irin Isma'il - Minister of Justice (Ophiel)
  • Raguiel Hafaza - Minister of Knowledge (Kerub)
  • Afriel Ardouisur - Minister of Childbirth and Lead Matriach (Bethor)
  • Oriel Itkal - Minister of Treasury (Bethor)
  • Kmiel Zagel - Minister of Truth (Araton)
  • Gabriel Nithaiah - Embassador and Representitive of Humanity (Hagith)

Reproduction

Arella reproduction is very similar to human reproduction, in that the Arella females are impregnated through sexual intercourse and give birth after entering labor (Which may take up to 36 hours.) This experience is often painful, though Arella medical technology works to ease such pain. The Arella are a mammalian race, and like humans are constantly in a reproductive cycle, an Arella female may be impregnated at any time. Female menstrual cycles last well into the Arella's six hundredth year.
The Arella have informed us that their biology is similar to a human's, and while crossbreeding is a possibility, the child would only "Contain the gift of the one." This means that the child would be a mage, but would not have any of the physical traits of the Arella.

Mating

The Arella, while keeping monogamous relationships, believe that they live too long to spend with one singular mate, and often a 'life' relationship lasts for roughly one hundred years before the two mates are given the decision to stay together for another hundred, or (more often) go their separate ways. The Arella have a wedding ceremony akin to the celtic hand fasting ceremony, a loop of soft but dense rope is tied about the wrists of the two mates, symbolizing their bond. This ceremony is by no means a permanent bonding, though being bound to a mate symbolizes that you will be faithful to them and only them until the decision is made to break the loop, and move on.

Arella are a moral race, and those that are discovered to have mated with more than one partner at a time are brought before the council to be Judged.
