The Arella Technology

The technology the Arella brought with them is the height of biological advancement, their technology is built predominantly of a metal called Kug (kuu-g). This metal is grown from a plant of the same name, further into this section we will describe the theory behind Kug-seed. Arella technology, being grown, is brought forth to the world with a sense of individualism; Technology with a mind of its own could often be dangerous, if not for the coexistent relationship between them and the Arella.
Kug has long since gained a symbiotic relationship with the Arella, and while it provides many services for them, it in return gains sustenance, all the rest it requires, and its individual freedom of choice. Devices made of Kug are not slaves to the Arella, but more employees.

Grown?

Kug is planted methodically once a year, and harvested once a year. When the seeds are planted, the Minister of Agriculture comprises a list of devices or convieniences they will need, specifications are drawn for them, and then input into the seeds through some ritual. The seeds then grow to form the devices needed over time...whether it be a small household appliance, weapon, or entire Arella transport.
Mostly the planting of this crop is trusted to the women of the Arella race.

Arella Craft

The primary form of Arella transportation is a 'seed shaped' craft roughly 40 feet in diameter, these are called Kuba(Koo-Bah.) Each craft gains a name at birth, often choosing it's own. The crafts most often take an interior form akin to temples of Greco-Roman design, long hallways with arches instead of doors, each ship provides resting quarters (communal) for up to 50 people, and for longer trips may make a an entire room equivalent to a suspended animation chamber for it's passengers.

The Kuba, like the Kug, also has a symbiotic relationship with the Arella. They thirst for knowledge and sustenance for prolonged life, which the Arella provide, and in return they give the Arella transportation and shelter. An Arella, upon receiving a Kuba is given a week to bond with it: as with any vehicle that has a mind of it's own, if it doesn't like you, you won't be going very far. Kuba often choose a representation of itself. This representation may be male, but is predominantly female. Inside its own body, the representation is confined to a singular 'control' room, where it may roam free.

Arella craft may take any form, if given enough time and instruction on how to perform the change, though the craft's persona prefers its "Seed" shape, seeing it as Natural. The bonding process with the craft is not very painstaking, in that it may only take a few hours, however it is very much a bond for life. This bond forges a permanent mental link between the craft and it's 'owner', much like the shaman's Tsigeyui bond between mates, allowing all of the following effects:

  • The Arella may feel what the Kuba feels, and the Kuba may feel what the Arella feels.
  • The Arella may carry on silent conversations* with the Kuba
  • The Arella may cause the Kuba's form to change, if the Kuba wishes it so.
  • The Arella may ask the Kuba to produce something that is needed, whether it be food or equipment.
  • The Arella may summon the Kuba from anywhere, and it will travel to get there.

*Conversations carried on in this manner seem like a distant whisper, and must be concentrated upon to both hear and speak.

Arella Weapons/Tools and Armor

Arella weapons are somewhat similar to the earth "Vibro" blades. The arella blades resemble weapons of roman or, depending on clan, celtic make. Blades and tools are made of either molded or folded Kug alloy, producing a hard metallic matter which is also fully organic. Cutting tools or blades are given a charge from a golden red crystalline stone resembling amber, this stone is called an Uzu. The stone charges the particles of Kug causing them to move quickly, generating friction along the surface and consequently enough heat that the tool may cut through most metals, including tritanium. Tools such as this are used for molding, modeling, and reshaping of Kug homes.

Arella armor is made of an alloy comprised of Kug and bronzed Steel, it's extremely durable and rests somewhere between Tritanium and Dlex on the metallic density charts. This alloy may suffer several shots from conventional weapons with armor piercing ammunition before gaining a hole, however against energy weapons it lasts on average about as well as tritanium.
