Rules and Regulations

General Rules of Conduct

Welcome to the world of Headquarters, a futuristic semi-free form role play. Located in #HQ, on irc.Serenity-IRC.net, you’re welcome to come join us, play for a while, or just "lurk" and see what’s going on. We are all here to have fun, and enjoy a good RP experience. This is a mature theme role play, and requires integrity in play.

How to Join the HQ World

Characters wishing to become part of the game must be approved by an OP before play begins, and be registered PRIOR to play in #HQ by speaking to Asha in message.
NO OTHER PLAYER SHOULD KNOW WHAT IS ON YOUR CHARACTER SHEET, including your character's abilities. If you choose to discuss your character with another person that is not an OP/GM, any information revealed automatically becomes In Character information for that player, and any others that may overhear or be told it. Characters can and do lie. A player who lies to an OP/GM in private will be removed from the game.

Channel Guidelines

  1. Idling
We DO ask if you are not actually at your keyboard for an extended period of time you log yourself out of the channel. Players who are IC and inactive for over an hour, or players in OOC who are inactive for over 12 hours without posting may be removed (excluding those with GM permission). Cooperation with this request will be enforced as necessary.
  2. Language
The R rating on the channel is for language and violence, NOT for sex. I don't care what you do - or don't do - in private, but keep it out of the public channels. Some of the players here are as young as 13. Please keep this in mind.
  3. Power Gaming
( or godmoding). I'm sure you know what it is. Simple rule here, don't do it.
  4. Mode of Play
This is a GM run channel. Do NOT start plot lines or story lines, without checking with Asha first. This also includes showing up with your character injured from something NOT run by a GM in channel. If in doubt ASK. It's a lot easier than getting yelled at, or banned.
  5. Leaving the IC channel
Departing with out saying "bye" is rude, at best.
Leaving your computer without removing your character from IC can result in removal from play.
Allowances are made for real life interruptions, and server disconnections are no matter. If we know that's what has happened.
Be a dear, type "Oh (enter four word explicitive here), gotta go" before vanishing.

How to Play

  1. IC and OOC
If you are IC (#HQ), you must also be in OOC (#HQ_OOC). The reasoning behind this is quite simple, we can't correct you on things if you aren't, much less warn you. Do yourself a favour, keep an eye on the OOC room.
  2. Character Communication
ANY information or actions not available to ALL players in channel should NOT be posted publicly, including telepathic communication between characters, private thoughts, and actions not visable to the main room. Channel OPs or GM's will direct you to channel's fitting to where you are.
For example, if you're standing on the airstrip thinking to yourself that it'd be good to take your plane out for a flight, you would only post the actual take off.
Or should you be in the lower levels of the base you wouldn't post any actions in the main room at all.
We do not see the hidden dagger, nor do we know what you are thinking. "* Character sits down, dejectedly" is acceptable, "* Character sits down, dejectedly, thinking about his/her dead dog" is not.
  3. Scenarios
Players are often required to resolve conflicts on their own, without an OP/GM present. At any time, any player may be running a scenario, but in cases of disagreement, an OP/GM is the final and only authority.
  4. Respect
The HQ world is based on the military. Those joining the game will probably start off with a character at Private or Specialist level. Your character is expected to behave in the assigned rank as they grow and find their feet. Inappropriate behaviour or actions will be dealt with IC as such.
  5. Channel Management
A lot of work goes in to making the HQ world detailed, populated and well formed. Part of this involves keeping personal channel disputes to a minimum so that all can enjoy the game.
The GM's are not unreasonable, nor uncivil and are approachable over any problem. However, they will not tolerate abuse in any form.
  6. OOC Disputes
Those who end up causing unresolved trouble in OOC channels will be dealt with to allow free playing to continue.
