| Frequently Asked Questions
Q: WHY do I have to have character approval?
A: This is a GM run channel. Character approval makes
sure that your character has the best chance to fit in with the rest of
the channel, and that you are the kind of player who will be a benefit
to the channel, and to the game.
Q: Where do I live?
A: Everyone on base is provided with lodging .. either
in the military sector, or in the civilian sector of the Underground City
(UGC), depending on who/what they are. Single soldiers have essentially
an efficiency apartment .. same with single civilians... they don't own
it, but live there rent free as part of their jobs .. very few people
on the island OWN any part of it. Personnel in leadership positions, and
married people have houses in varying locations in the UGC.
Q: Somebody told me there'd be something
going on (#:## time) ic, what time is that?
A: Despite the geographic location of HQ, we use EST
(Eastern Standard Time), as its the most common for all the players in
the room and is easily translated to local time zone. However, events
happen more often at "Whenever-the-hell-everyone-gets-here"
o'clock.
Q: What about money?
A: Each person has a bank account, their pay is directly
deposited to that account. Any bar bills are taken directly from this
account each month. Three meals per day are provided, whether obtained
from a mess hall, or a replicator .. anything beyond that is also deducted
from your pay automatically, except restaurant meals in the UGC.
Q: "What happens when I'm not here?"
A: Your character is off, living it's life, going to
work, and going home as usual. Your character will not advance during
that time, but it will not be killed off, either. If you missed action
from IC .. find out about it IC, we will NOT tell you OOC, unless your
character has access to the security tapes. If you have to ask if you
have access to them? You don't.
Q: "When do we play?"
A: Anytime there is more than one person/character in
the IC channel, play may happen.
Q: Can I play an ampiric-were-rabbit-cyborg-panther-with-psionics-and-the-ability-to-time-travel-while-having-wings-and-being-half
fae-with-dragon's-blood?
A: Sayeth the Talyn: "Hell no. Not only no. But
HELL no"
Q: Can I get silver/rocksalt/apdu or
any other type of ammo anywhere but the armory?
A: No, ammunitions are a controlled substance on Headquarters
island and may not be purchased anywhere but the HQ armory or designated
military controlled weapons stores. There are no 'black market' weapons
dealers on HQ island. There are no 'black market' weapons dealers on HQ
island. There are no 'black market' weapons dealers on HQ island. Third
time's the charm, don-cha-know.
Q: So what is this channel?
A: As you can see, our channel topic states exactly what
our room is, for those of you completely unfamiliar with these terms,
I will now explain them.
Modern/Futuristic Semi-FFRP (2027) R-rated [ TAKE OOC
TO: #hq_ooc - ] Events: Check website!!! If AFK, log out. For game info,
visit (( http://www.HQRpg.net )) or contact an OP
Semi-FFRP
This means that you've
wandered into our IC or In Character room, we are a semi-free form role-playing
room, as this abbreviated statement says. This means that you need to
be approved to role-play here.
Role-play (rlpl)
v. role-·played,
role-·play·ing, role-·plays
v. tr.
To assume or represent in a drama; act out; To assume the role of a
character in a play or dramatization.
Ap·proved (-prv)
To have approval of someone,
to be allowed to do something.
Modern/Futuristic
This means that the channel
setting takes place in a time slightly ahead of ours. The present year
is 2024. We have: Mutants, Yaujta, Xenomorphs, Kzinti, Arella, Werewolves,
Were-cats, Were-spiders, Were-rabbits, Were-ducks, Were-bears, Were-mice
,Were-platyputh, Where's the beef, Dragons, Psions, Mages, Cyborgs,
Endoskeletons, alien Dolphins, Fae, and that's just the good guys!
R-rated
To help explain why our
channel is rated R, here is a modified explanation of the R rating taken
from the MPAA home page
R:"Restricted,Under
17 may Require Accompanying Parent Or Adult Guardian."
In the opinion of the Rating Board, this channel definitely contains
adult material. Parents are strongly urged to find out more about this
channel before they allow their children to accompany them.
An R-rated channel may include harsh language, extreme violence, nudity,
drug abuse or other elements, or a combination of some of the above,
so that parents are counseled, in advance, to take this advisory rating
very seriously. Parents must find out more about an R-rated channel
before they allow their teenagers to view it
[ TAKE OOC TO: #hq_ooc - ]
Simply put, this means
that OOC (or 'out of character') comments should most often be kept
to #HQ_OOC, as there it won't interrupt the flow of role-play.
If AFK, log out.
Another simple one, this
states that unless you have permission to log the IC room, you should
leave #HQ when you are going to be away from the keyboard for an extended
period of time, you may, however, sit in #HQ_OOC as long as you want.
Unusual words:
Q: What the hell is a Splurf?
A: Splurf (splûrph)
v. splurfs, splurf·ing, splurfed
the act of spewing whatever you WERE attempting to swallow, including
cigarettes and air, all over a monitor when one explodes in laughter.
While in this room choking counts aswell, and yes we DO keep track of
the "points"
Q: Who is this strange person and why
is she/he calling me Dewa?
A: Dewa is a semi affectionate term used between friends,
similar in meaning to "wench!" or "goon." Though the
literal real life translation is flying squirrel. Chances are if an op
you don't know yet is calling you this, its Asha, our beloved founder
and lead GM.
Q: Why do people keep saying GOOMPH?
A: GOOMPH is the abbreviated form of "Get out of my pauking* head,"
it's usually used when someone else posts the same thought as you.
Q: is Shanshu a word, or did the ops
just sneeze?
A: While there is no literal translation, we assure you
it is most definitely a word, its easiest description is "peace"
"calm" "easy" .. all in one .. usually used as a request
to "calm down" or "take it easy"
Q: I just said "I'm bored"
or "It's Quiet", why are the players hiding?
A: The "B" word, or the "Q" word,
when said (either in IC or OOC), is usually taken as a cue by the GM's
to throw SOMETHING at the characters currently in play. Take heed.
