Psionics

Psionics are a rare breed among the human race, usually having the ability to control certain things or read things in others. Psion characters are very much like those of normal human beings. Psions can be of any concept or background among the HQ world, though they tend to pop up among the HQ personnel, and are sent to the Federation Institute for the Gifted (Mage School) for training.

Unlike Magi, the brain of a psion is quite literally "wired" differently. This allows them to tap into the raw potential of the human mind, granting them awsome mental powers. The precise way a psion's powers are determined is so far unknown. Theoretically, any psion possesses the potential to learn every application of psionic power, known and unknown. However, to achieve this, the psion would have to devote the entirety of their lives to studying mental discipline and even then it is unlikely they would master everything within their life time.

System
Like Magi, the Psions use the points system. Psions start with an amount of points which will be determined by a GM, and may use up to 5 points per psionic effect. Points regenerate at 12:00am EST daily. Please note that the below list of abilities is only what has appeared in the HQ at the present time. New powers may be brought to the GMs for approval. All psionic abilities operate only within Line of Sight unless otherwise specified.

Point usage is to be posted either in channel or to a GM in private before the power is used.

 
Psionic Abilities

Biofeedback
The ability to control one's own autonomic bodily functions simply by concentrating. This ability is an inwardly directed awareness and control. There are several abilities specific to Biofeedback, and some can be combined with psi-powers such as Telepathy.

  • Psions with biofeedback can accelerate and decelerate their bodily functions
  • Psions can use Biofeedback to conquer pain and distress by causing their bodies to release adrenaline into their blood stream, or their brain to release endorphins. They may ignore suffered wounds. This ability may also be used to ignore non damaging discomforts of a physical nature. The number of points needed is at the GM's discretion.
  • Psions with biofeedback can reduce bleeding (1 pt), purify their systems (1-3 pts depending on toxin), and accelerate healing (1-5 pts).
  • At the GM's discretion, a Psion may perform other effects involving control of his body's systems.

Pyrokinesis
This is the spectacular and oft-envied power of psycho kinetic control over heat and flame.
The amount of flame which can be generated, controlled, or extinguished at once is as follows:

The effect must be along or projected from a surface in the character's environment (including his own body which may be made immune to fire by the expulsion of points, 1 pt = 10 minutes of immunity). The fire lasts for only as long as the character concentrates upon it unless it has a fuel source present.

Sensing
Sensing is the extraordinary ability to sense the spatial realities of the world. Using sensing a psion may do anything from see in up to four different directions (left, right, and behind. 1-3 pts), or to (by touching an item belonging to the person) see the location of another living person. A third and often difficult ability is a form of radar, where the psion can be aware of their entire surroundings to the point seeming to have precognition. Where distance is a factor, the point costs are as follows:

Telekinesis
This power can grant great physical prowess to a Psion; it is the ability to remotely move and manipulate things.

The telekinetic force is acted upon by an 'extension' of the psion's body. The extension may take the form of a hand, a wall, or an outward explosion of psionic energy. Though usually it is the first that is used for the manipulation of objects. These extensions are often invisible.

Telepathy
The power of Telepathy is one of the most common among the psions. It is the ability to forge a "direct linking of two nervous systems separated by space." This allows the Psion to communicate with a remote nervous system, usually the brain of another human being. Some special effects that Psions can learn to do with their Telepathy are described as follows:

  • The Psion can forge a mental link to a subject strong enough to use his Biofeedback ability upon the body of the subject, in order to enhance or heal or perform any other Biofeedback effect upon the subject as the Psion would upon himself.
  • The Psion may speak in another's mind, as well as read surface thoughts. Through this means the character may carry on a conversation with another
  • The Psion may read another's thoughts
